Clown 101
with Paper LaShay
- September 22 – November 17 (no class 10/20)
- Tuesdays 5:30-7:30
- Ages 18+
- No experience required
- $200 for the 8-week series
Clown is a tool box – helpful for any practice. It’s about being present in the moment, calming your nervous system, listening to your body and your environment.
This is an open level class for folks who feel the clown spirit & want to unlock their power(!), serious clowns ready to sharpen their tools, non-clown specific performers interested in deepening their relationship with audience, and folks who just want to have a good time, boost confidence, and LAUGH!!!

What is clown?
Clown is a blanket term in physical theater used to describe a variety of characteristics. It’s is a palette. It’s a way of being present, listening, connecting with your audience, embodying the moment.
There are many ways to clown. There is actually no WRONG Way to clown. But! there are ways to clown BETTER – through studying the rich history and technique.
About the instructor:
Paper LaShay is an international performance artist and storyteller, specialized in surreal clown theater. With a background in dance and circus: aerial, acrobatics, and stilting. She combines a variety of crafts, styles and emotions, inviting audience into other worlds. She has toured with a variety of groups for 10+ years, such as: the Wanderlust Circus, March Fourth, High Step Society, Hot Damn Scandal, Three For Silver, Lucent Dossier Experience, her one woman show “The Shay Show” and more. Her teaching style is nurturing yet challenging, creating a safe environment to explore and try new things.
